Marathon day

We woke up this morning, bundled up and headed into Nemours for labs and a dr appointment. Upon arrival we were told that he would be getting his blood transfusion. We were not prepared. When we know there is going to be a day stay we pack accordingly with snacks and toys and computers. Fortunately for us, Nemours is always full of fun and entertainment. We did not leave the hospital until 5:45 so it was a very long day. We painted, danced, built with magnetic tiles, played eye spy (downtown skyline version), snacked, watched 2 movies, visited with a Jacksonville IceMan Hockey player and snacked some more. With all of the fun and distractions it was still a long day for a 2 year old to be confined in a small room while attached to a pole. We packed up with all of the staff at closing time and made our way down to the car. As the doors of the elevator opened George spotted Sprinkles the Clown. She was packing up her things too and was ready to head home. She heard the squeal of delight from George and sat back down, unpacked her things and scooped him up into her chair and began painting his face. Now I know she was tired. She was there all day today too and it was a packed day at Nemours. When we arrived first thing in the morning we had to park on the roof of the parking garage because it was so full. I’m sure her back hurt and arms were tired from all the children’s faces she must have painted. How special and thoughtful it was for her to make his day end on such a high note. Yet another angel volunteer at the greatest hospital around. Thanking the Lord that George is filled to the brim with blood and has his pink color back. Thanking God for bringing rays of sunshine to otherwise cloudy days. Thanking God for a day off tomorrow before heading back in for another round of chemo on Thursday. We will sleep wonderfully tonight knowing that God protected George from his hemoglobin dropping any further. We will wake up tomorrow and wash our pillow cases from the Captain America face paint residue and enjoy a day of rest. Praise the Lord!!!
