Put on a happy face

Today George had his dr appointment at 3pm instead of in the morning. This was a first for us and it was kind of nice. I originally thought it would be a pain to go in at the time of the day when we all seem to be tired. This was not the case. Not having to wake up and rush in worked out wonderfully. We had a nice day together and then slowly made our way into Nemours. No labs were drawn today. It was just a check up and meeting to discuss the game plan for his next blood transfusion. His hemoglobin actually came back at 9 yesterday instead of 10 like we thought. I am going to take him back on Friday to recheck and see if the blood transfusion will be on Saturday at Wolfson or on Monday at Nemours. The insurance company is still resisting our appeals to cover the cost of the next round of chemo to fix this anemia. We are appealing again and have enlisted help from a friend who has some pull at Florida Blue. It’s so strange to me that insurance companies can deny a drug to a patient that is to combat a life threatening condition. I know that this will all work out but it is just frustrating to see all of the extra efforts being put in by all of the drs, nurses and human resource employees to have them approve this medicine for George. This is just another thing that we leave in Gods hands and trust that everything will work out for the best. Since the appointment was at 3 today, both the girls came with us. To our delight, Sprinkles the clown was back in the lobby of Nemours painting children’s faces. George has always been a spectator while his sisters have had their faces painted. But not today. Today George hopped up in the chair and said he wanted SpiderMan. He was so excited and sat perfectly still the whole time. He felt like a million bucks after it was done and was beaming and strutting around the rest of the day. Every person he passed that looked at him he got a little grin on his face. Like he felt as if he was Spiderman himself. I anticipate him having a meltdown at bedtime tonight when I need to wipe it off.  We are so thankful that we get a few days off from going into Nemours. We are thankful for good counts, except for hemoglobin. We are thankful for all who are helping us conquer the insurance company stand off. We are so very thankful for a happy and almost completely healthy boy. He is on his way and putting on a happy, Spider-Man painted face along the way. Keep those prayers coming. This isn’t over yet. We can feel your prayers daily and love everyone for always keeping George and our family on their minds and hearts.
