Mr Valentine

The past two days have been filled with excitement, candy and news interviews. One of the sweet charities that have provided events and toys for not only George and our family but also tons of other kids battling cancer and other rare blood diseases. With Love Charity was started by a childhood cancer survivor who also had a bone marrow transplant when she was 14. She is amazing and thriving and spreading happiness and raising money all over the country for other children and their families. Tay (the founder) and George have become great buddies over this past year and so she asked us to come help her do an interview on a news segment she was doing for her Valentines party at the hospital. Well you know how we love live interviews (wink wink) and so of coarse we obliged. All went well until George got hungry and announced this continually to all of the viewers until I was forced to remove him from his spotlight. Hey, when you are hungry, you are hungry. I totally can relate. It was fun to have Bowers and Kate with us as well to take all the pressure off of me and my nervous rambling. Today when we went in for labs, With Love Charity also was there and spoiled George rotten as per usual with Valentine treats and goodies. After he handed out his Valentines to the staff he was feeling pretty full of himself and started blowing kisses to the crowd of onlookers. He is too much. I have called him Mr Valentine ever since. It seems fitting. His labs came back today with some pretty cool news. His hemoglobin had held since Monday’s test. Talk about making my heart explode. I was fully expecting to have to schedule his blood transfusion today. And get this, all of his other counts were in the “normal” range. His antibody level had even dropped 1 point which basically means it could be settling down some. This level is the one that measures the antibodies that are attacking his blood. Could this be? Can the treatment be finally working to put a stop to the hemolytic anemia? Only God knows this answer, but it sure is an encouraging sign to me. We also were told today that he could drop down his heart rate medication to once a day from twice a day. Small step but man is this a great step. Each medicine dose or medication he can come off of is huge. I asked them if George was anywhere close to being able to start to take less medicine and basically got laughed out of the room. So I am guessing it will be awhile. But now he is half a dose closer to the goal of being medication free so I am very happy. It’s the little things. We head into the weekend not only celebrating the love we feel from all those around us but also our hearts full of love for these small victories and for God showing his mighty powers in George’s healing process. Thanking the Lord for all of these blessings from the past, today and so many more to come.
