Happy new Birthday George

Today we celebrate George’s new birthday. Today he has received Kate’s marrow and now is her identical DNA match. It was, and still is, a long day. The whole process takes 8 hours and he was monitored the entire time. Because of all of the different medicines they have to give him for this plus the new cells entering his body, George was very grumpy to say the least. Think terrible twos on steroids. Well that is actually accurate because he is on steroids. Anyway, the most wonderful thing happened this afternoon. The staff came in from Dreams Come True and decorated his entire room for a birthday party. Then every single doctor on the floor, every single nurse and every single worker came into the room dressed up and in a parade and sang happy birthday to him and brought him a bunch of presents and a large banner with a sweet note from each and everyone. I was brought to my knees in tears and disbelief. This was honestly the most thoughtful thing that these strangers who are now my new family could have done. Today is his new birthday. Today begins his new life. We are so deeply cared for here at Wolfsons. The love that they show us is more then I can explain. This is something I will remember the rest of my life. It is something that picked us up in just the right moment and showed such love to us when they all have incredibly busy lives and schedules. It’s just amazing how God shows his love through others. These pictures give it no justice at all. I wish the video would upload on the blog but it won’t. You too would be sobbing if you saw it. It should be a long night tonight but I can’t wait to share the good news tomorrow about how well he is doing. We made it to transplant!!!! Praise the Lord. New George is ready to bust out and blow these drs away at how well he handles his new super blood. Thank you kate. Thank you Weaver 4 staff. Thank you God.

George’s counts this morning were not improved. His platelets had gone down and so had his ANC. His hemoglobin went up 2 points but is still really low. His body is not responding to the platelet transfusions for some reason. He had another one today and we will check into the hospital on Sunday for the day to get one as well. They will have a blood transfusion ready to go too in case his hemoglobin doesn’t come back up. They are going to start cross matching his platelets that he receives to see if this will help them come up. What this means is that they will take the platelets and try and match them exactly to his own platelets. Right now his body is killing them off right as he receives them because they recognize them as being foreign. We need specific prayers that his transplant is not starting to fail. We need this all to turn around and for his body to regain all the forward momentum that it started with right after he received Kate’s marrow. Something is going on right now and...

Twins

I always wanted twins. Twins run in my moms family so I somewhat imagined it might actually happen. What I did not imagine was it happening at the ripe old age of 42.  They may not have shared a womb or even been born in the same year but Kate and George are officially twins. 100% engraftment! George’s transplant was a complete success. They are identical twins in every way internally. They share the exact same DNA. Our second child literally saved our third child’s life and now they will forever have a bond that only identical twins share. People may not have chosen this path to get twins and frankly I wouldn’t have either but I would not change even a second of any of it. Because of the blessing of George’s disease we have become a closer family. We have become closer with both old and new friends. We have met so many amazing people.
