Case of the Mondays

George woke up with a case of the Monday’s. He must have known it was going to be the beginning of a tough week. He fought hard to not get dressed. He fought hard to not be carried to the car. He fought hard to not be strapped into his car seat. He got himself so worked up that he proceeded to throw up all of his breakfast and morning meds while en route to his appointment. I’m certain the homeless man waiting at our stop light asking for some money even felt bad for me while we were waiting on the light to turn green. George has an extra special set of lungs. After his labs came back today the drs were still confused as to an exact reason for his platelets to not be coming up. His hemoglobin stayed the same as it was from yesterday and even though it is lower then they would like, it could also be contributed to all of the blood that is taken from him daily. So that isn’t of concern at this time. He did not end up having a platelet transfusion today like was scheduled because they want to wait to see what his counts do overnight. He will be going in for a scheduled IV medicine treatment tomorrow morning at the day hospital. This will happen once a month for the next few months. It is just part of the transplant routine. While he is there they will check all of his counts and determine if he needs any transfusions. If so they will give him the cross matched platelets and see if this helps. If that doesn’t work then he will be put on a 3 day high dose of steroids to stop his body from killing off his own platelets. These are both just two ways they will narrow down what the problem is so that they can come up with a solution. He is scheduled to have his bone marrow aspiration on Thursday this week but this could change depending on his counts tomorrow and Wednesday. We started him on an appetite stimulant today to see if this will help him with his eating or rather his lack of interest in food. Clearly this is not a genetic problem. At least not from his mother. Hoping this gets some weight back on my tiny but mighty man. This week will be a long and hard one for George. Every single day he will have something done to him. Please pray for his emotional state. He dreads his appointments because he knows too much now as to what they mean for his comfort. Please pray for his energy. I feel like you need to be emotionally happy to be able to internally heal too. Just keep praying for the drs to be able to figure this out and for George’s body to start fully functioning the way it needs to. Lord, flood his body with platelets. Flood his body with health and healing. Give him all the tools he needs to get through this transplant. Fill his heart with joy and peace and comfort. Let’s get through this week and get some positive answers. Thank you Lord for your continued grace throughout it all.

Since George wasn’t really in the mood for taking a picture this morning I wasn’t able to document any appointment highlights today. However, since it is officially the first day of fall here are a few adorable pictures of him modeling fall outfits pre transplant. This will brighten anyone’s day ❤️
