Thanksgiving (not so) break

Well this week is technically Thanksgiving break but it really wouldn’t be a holiday without the Mitchell family getting sick. Kate, George and Mitch all have colds. I’m certain Bowers will be going down at any point too. Thankfully this is not a bigger virus then it is. Just a typical hard hitting cold that accompanies runny noses and coughs. Monday George’s labs were a little low so with the long weekend coming up they wanted to make sure he was all taken care of.  He had to get some Neupagen yesterday to raise his ANC and will keep taking that until his counts come back up. His hemoglobin has dropped again so he is currently in the middle of a blood transfusion. His platelets did go up to 82 so that is a praise! He will leave Nemours after the transfusion today and head to the hospital for an antibiotic IV drip. He was not suppose to still be getting this one but since his counts were low they decided to go ahead with another round. Tomorrow we will come back in for labs and hopefully that will be it until Monday. I have to be on the lookout for symptoms of low hemoglobin or fevers this weekend and if he shows signs then we will just go check into the hospital since everything is closed for the holiday. Praying that this won’t happen but I am thankful to at least live close enough to be able to still see my family if we do have to check in. My whole side of the family will be gathering for the long weekend at my parents but George and I will be lounging in jammies and watching Christmas movies, decorating the house and eating lots of to go plates that Mitch promises to bring me. Not a bad way to spend the long weekend. Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for people and circumstances. This I am. There is so much to be thankful for this year. Too many things to list in one post. Mostly I am thankful to God for all that he has done for us and for George especially. Through the good days and bad. I will forever be thankful for this gift that God has given us. Although this break has been a not so much break, we have too much surrounding us to be grateful for to let that outshine this time. If you need us we will be laying low and loving our time together.

Twins

I always wanted twins. Twins run in my moms family so I somewhat imagined it might actually happen. What I did not imagine was it happening at the ripe old age of 42.  They may not have shared a womb or even been born in the same year but Kate and George are officially twins. 100% engraftment! George’s transplant was a complete success. They are identical twins in every way internally. They share the exact same DNA. Our second child literally saved our third child’s life and now they will forever have a bond that only identical twins share. People may not have chosen this path to get twins and frankly I wouldn’t have either but I would not change even a second of any of it. Because of the blessing of George’s disease we have become a closer family. We have become closer with both old and new friends. We have met so many amazing people. We made it

Today was the last day of Chemo, for now. He will have to have two more Rounds after his transplant but very mild ones. He did it!!! Praise the Lord that this portion is over. Still in shock that he made it through the whole thing without any noticeable side effects. God protected him and kept him strong through each day.   Tomorrow is the big day for our Kate. She arrives at the crack of dawn to undergo her 3 hour surgery to harvest her bone marrow. They will go in through her hips and take around 9oz. We need prayers for her safety through this procedure. Pray for no infections and no complications for her. Pray for no contamination in the marrow as it is being harvested so that George can get the most pure and perfect cells. Pray for courage for Kate. She is excited but I know when she gets here tomorrow she will be nervous and a little scared. She has a tender little heart.
