Smiley Happy Georgie

Today we went to the Day Hospital at Wolfson for one of George’s monthly treatments. George did not even put up a fight when I dropped the girls off at my moms house before. Was this a sign as to how the day would go? We walked up to the hospital and they had installed some really cool infrared cameras to check to see if anyone was sick. I felt like we were in a Mission Impossible movie. Maybe I’m easily impressed but I thought it was so cool. They have closed the hospital gift shop and it was empty. I hope they are able to reopen after this all settles down but for today I was excited that there wasn’t an option to buy George’s M&Ms which meant no tantrum. Was this the second sign of good things to come? We got started immediately on the IV with hardly a fuss when he was being accessed. He had several snacks. He watched an Elmo movie. We played a matching game. We played with play doh. Before we knew it, the beeping of the IV pump was indicating to us that his infusion was complete. What? No tears? No tantrums? No complaining about going home? Today George was all smiles. The whole time. He was his friendly old self to all of the nurses. He was social. He was so well behaved. Is old Georgie coming back to us? Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. He started melting down the minute we got home but hey, I’ll take it. I can handle melt downs in the privacy of our home. When he acts out in public and especially at an already stressful and draining treatment it makes for an unpleasant day. Not today though. Georgie gave me the day off. He shined. We actually had fun together. His counts were all basically the same as they were last week so that is good news too. I was also told that they don’t think he needs another bone marrow aspiration at this time so I canceled that. I also asked if we could hold off on the MRI and they agreed. Today was a good day filled with praises. As we go into this long holiday weekend we will relax in knowing that George had a great week. George is getting stronger and healthier each day. God will bring him to his victory. Remembering all of the soldiers who lost their lives for our freedom and for all those still fighting for it today. Memorial Day is a day to honor others. So as we all wear our patriotic colors and laugh and play and enjoy time together (in small self quarantined groups) we can thank God for all of the blessings around us. With the sand between our toes this weekend we will slather George up with his sunscreen and watch him with tears in our eyes at how far he has come. Thank you Lord. Thank you Lord.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17
